 Center for Animal Alternatives in Education

What is the CAAE?

The Center for Animal Alternatives in Education is the first program in Mexico to fully focus its functions and activities for the development and optimization of the teaching-learning process in higher education, supporting students and teachers by disseminating, promoting and facilitating access to alternatives to the use of animals. 

 

Mission

 

To recollect and disseminate resources and information on alternatives to the use of animals in education.  To promote the advancement of the docent academic quality by improving the teaching methods in the health and life sciences education.  

  

Vision

 

To progress into a curricular design that broadens the learning potential by promoting critical thinking, ethical culturization, respect and value for life.

 

Objectives

 

·         Create, maintain and provide access to resources and actualized bibliographic material on alternatives in education.

·         Contribute to the ethical and integral formation of students of the health and life sciences.

·         To provide inclusive educational activities on new developments of alternatives in education.

·         Promote the progress towards more innovative and ground-breaking educational methods in the health and life sciences.

·         To achieve an inclusive collaboration with the university community.

 

Functions and Services

 

Recollection and Dissemination

 

Basic Library

Collection of books, videos, journals, magazines etc., on alternatives to animal use and humane education. The resources are available for loan for teachers and students.

 

InterNICHE Mexican Alternative Loan System

Collection of CD-ROMs, multimedia, mannequins, models and simulators. These alternatives involve areas like anatomy, physiology and surgery. Teachers and students from all over Mexico can use the loan system, having the opportunity to get familiarized with some of the best products available.

 

Development of Activities

Planning, organization and development of conferences, workshops, forums and courses on the use of animals in education, humane and progressive education and implementation of alternatives among others, offering access to the exchange of information  and national and international outreach. 

 

                                                 

Vinculation and Outreach

 

National and International Agreements

Creation of agreements, collaborations and participations between the University and with national and international educational institutions and organizations.  

 

Consultancy

Provide consultancy on alternatives to teachers and students of the health and life sciences at an institutional and national level.

 

 

Development

 

Design of Implementation Programs

In collaboration with the university community, practices with harmful of fatal animal use will be analyzed. Viable implementation programs that satisfy the pedagogical objectives of the practices will be developed.

 

Continuous Training

Promoting the constant training and actualization of educators by developing training courses in the use of alternatives.

 

Development of Alternatives

To bring support to those teachers, students and professionals that wish to create new pedagogical methods, not implying harmful or fatal animal use.

 

 

Research

 

Conduct research projects on animal use and alternatives in education.
